YouTube Guide

A YouTube account is really two products in a trench coat: the Google account that owns it, and the channel itself. Buying one means taking over both cleanly, and the transfer mechanics are stricter than any other social platform — get them wrong and YouTube hands the channel back to the original owner automatically. This guide covers how legitimate channel sales actually work.

What you're actually buying

  • Monetized channels (YPP). The premium tier: accepted into the YouTube Partner Program, which requires 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 watch hours in 12 months or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days. Verify enrollment yourself in YouTube Studio → Monetization; screenshots can be from anyone's channel.
  • Channels with audience. Subscribers and watch history in a niche, monetized or not. Price tracks real engagement (average views per video), not subscriber count — a 100k-sub channel averaging 500 views is a dead channel.
  • Aged Google accounts with clean YouTube history. No channel to speak of, but old, trusted Google accounts for starting fresh without the new-account upload limits.

How a proper transfer works

The clean method is the Brand Account transfer: the seller moves the channel to a Brand Account, adds your Google account as an owner, waits, then removes themselves. You end up owning the channel under your own Google identity — no password sharing, no recovery risk. The risky method is a straight Google-account handover (they give you the login and you change the recovery details). It works, but the original owner created that Google account, and Google's recovery systems remember. For anything above a few dozen dollars, insist on the Brand Account path and confirm each step in a screen share or recording.

What to check before you buy

  • Monetization status, live. YouTube Studio → Earn tab. Check it's actually enabled and which modules (ads, memberships, shopping).
  • Strikes. YouTube Studio → Copyright. Even expired strikes tell you the channel's history; active strikes limit features and can kill monetization.
  • Original email and recovery. For Google-account handovers: you must be able to change the recovery email and phone to yours, and the seller should remove theirs in front of you.
  • AdSense linkage. A monetized channel is tied to an AdSense account. Clarify whether the AdSense transfers (it usually doesn't cleanly) or whether you'll link your own — switching AdSense can trigger a re-review.
  • Content originality. Channels built on re-uploaded content get demonetized on the next review. Ask what the content is and check a few videos yourself.

Warranty expectations

Channel sales usually carry 7–30 days — longer than other categories, because reclamation takes time to surface. The warranty should cover the seller reclaiming access and the channel being terminated for pre-existing violations. It will not cover strikes you earn yourself after takeover, or demonetization caused by your own uploads.

Common scams

  • The recovery reclaim. Seller recovers the Google account via original creation data weeks later. The Brand Account transfer is the defense — once you're the sole owner, there's nothing to recover.
  • Rented monetization. "Monetized" channels that were approved with borrowed watch time and get demonetized at the next review. Check the channel's actual content library, not just the Earn tab.
  • Subscriber fraud. Dead subscribers from sub4sub schemes. Check average views per video over the last 20 uploads — that's the real audience number.

Never pay for a channel without seeing YouTube Studio live. A seller who refuses a screen share of the Earn and Copyright tabs is telling you everything you need to know. And use an escrow-style mindset even on a marketplace with buyer protection: confirm each transfer step — Brand Account created, your account added as owner, seller removed — before the warranty clock runs out, not after.
